I believe that the crew did the right thing in getting Mark back. Getting Mark back was essential to get the information that he collected on Mars. Mark’s concern is that he didn’t want to put other astronauts lives at risk. Mark was willing to die up on Mars if the team did everything they could to save him. Were there other alternatives to get Mark back? Alternatives were everything the team was trying to find to keep the risk of other out of the way. The others were willing to put their lives at risk if it meant saving a life of want of there own.
