What makes us root for a character to live in the survival story? In what ways do you identify with Mark? How does the author get you to care about him?

I have found at where he is stranded with no one to help him he has to find ways to survive on his own. He always pushes himself and doesn’t give up on what he is doing in order to survive. People always usually tend to root for the person who is in trouble in stories like this. Everyone wants the team to get back to him and save him. They want him to be able to make it back home safe and with no problems. In the story he keeps on having things happened to him that are not in his favor. In his words in the story it’s just bad luck and there’s nothing you can do about it. That is what makes people tend to care for him in ways that are emotional. The author makes these things happen to him to get you to have sympathy and to created a deeper connection with you and the character. In ways I feel as I connect with him is by pushing myself in ways. His main goal is to survive long enough for someone to come back and rescue him safely to be able to make it back home. He knows the chances of them coming back to save him are very slim but he still has high hopes. Just always push yourself even when you think there is no way you could possibly do it , that in the end hard work and dedication pays off.
